Blevio

The Blevio table was designed in 1930 by engineer and architect Ignazio Gardella for his own family home, Villa Usuelli, in Blevio on Lake Como. It is an elegant piece of furniture that embodies the statement of form follows function which was achieved by removing all superfluous elements and selective material usuage so that the material that was to becomes the main aesthetic feature. The table’s refined and unusual design features a counter-curved structure that stabilizes the vertical supports and emphasizes the continuity of the table top. Molteni&C’s Heritage Collection has added the Blevio table to their range, inaugurating a partnership with the Gardella Historical Archive. The original copper finish was replaced with a metal powder varnish that provides the same artisanal shine and greater durability. A slab of Breccia Capraia marble was also explored for the table top. The proportions of the original design were adjusted to fit contemporary dinner table heights under the supervision of the Gardella Historical Archive. Gardella himself praised the table for the way it reflects light and enhances its design. The Blevio table is a timeless piece of design history that adds elegance to any living environment.
